From A Year of 100-Word Thoughts

Does what we see and hear of a person stack up in any real way to the actuality of that person? Wouldn’t we have to share each other’s minds to get a real sense of the other? Not vicarious sharing via some clumsy medium like words, but actually experiencing each other’s mind, literally being of the same mind. Just magical thinking? Or could such a thing be possible? Have the vast majority of us ever tried it, even with those we are closest to? But maybe we prefer our fantasy straw men, our cozy made-up counterparts, to the just-as-real-as-we-are truth.
